Life has been going swimmingly for Dan Vladar since departing the Calgary Flames organization after the 2024-25 season.
Knowing he would continue in a backup role if he were to re-sign in Calgary, Vladar instead inked a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers in hopes of earning a bigger opportunity. It’s a decision that has paid off brilliantly.
Vladar appeared in a career-high 52 games this season, posting an impressive 2.42 goals-against average along with a .906 save percentage. More importantly, he helped the Flyers snap a five-year playoff drought before going on to eliminate the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round.
The Flyers were eliminated a short time later by the Carolina Hurricanes, though not to the fault of Vladar. In fact, the organization has been so happy with his play that the two sides have reportedly agreed to a five-year extension, which can be announced on July 1.
“Vladar, I think it’s pretty much done. I think he’s got a five-year extension done in Philly. They just can’t announce it until July 1, but you’re allowed to talk to the player,” Elliotte Friedman said to Matt Marchese and Mike Futa on Sportsnet 590.
A five-year contract extension would be a massive achievement for Vladar. His current two-year deal, worth $6.7 million, stands as the largest contract of his career to date. If, or perhaps when, this new extension is announced, it will give him a major increase in pay.
Though the Flyers aren’t Stanley Cup contenders just yet, they made some serious strides this season and appear to have a bright future ahead. Based on Friedman’s reporting, it seems as though management views Vladar as part of their exciting future.
