Downtown Throwdown - and piles of snow - returns to Calgary

Dec 19 2017, 11:18 am

Get ready for Stephen Avenue to be transformed into a spring-time winter wonderland once again. The 4th annual Sunshine Village Downtown Throwdown returns to the city for an amazing ski and snowboard spectacle.

The Downtown Throwdown involves shipping in massive amounts of snow from Sunshine Village to the heart of downtown Calgary, turning Stephen Avenue into an epic rail jam.

“We’ve had such a mild winter here – when people see no snow in the city, they’re kind of like ‘oh, there can’t be snow there,’ so this is a reminder to everyone that there’s still over a month left to ski up at Sunshine,” Sunshine Village spokesperson Lindsay Gallagher tells Calgary Buzz.

The whole space is about 50 feet long and will feature skiers and riders from the resort’s freestyle team hitting the ramp and doing tricks for onlookers.

Sunshine Village’s ski season goes until May 23.
