Your bank account may be looking a little light right now, but it will look a little fuller next month, as Albertans are receiving a fresh round of the Canada Carbon Rebate in April.
TheĀ Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR), formerly the Climate Action Incentive payment, is a tax-free amount that helps individuals and families offset the cost of federal pollution pricing.
Under the federal pollution pricing system, the government puts a price on pollution in regions that do not have their own pricing system. These regions include Alta., Sask., Man., N.S., N.B., Nfld., P.E.I., and Ont.
To be eligible, residents in those provinces must be at least 19 years old in the month before the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) makes a payment.
If you are under 19 years old, the government says you must meet at least one of the following conditions to be eligible:
- You have (or had) a spouse or common-law partner
- You are (or were) a parent and live (or lived) with your child
The CCR also includes a 20 per centĀ supplement for residents of small and rural communities.
The supplement applies only to residents of Alta., Sask., Man., N.S., N.B., Nfld., P.E.I., and Ont.Ā whose primary residence is outside a Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) and who expect to continue to reside outside the same CMA on April 1, 2024.
All CCR recipients in P.E.I. are eligible for the rural supplement, which is included in their basic amount.
Albertans last received a CCR on Jan. 15. The next payment after April 15 is expected on July 15.
