Canada gets bad news injury update on Alphonso Davies ahead of FIFA World Cup opener

Canada will not have one of their best players healthy in time for Friday’s FIFA World Cup opener.
The Canadian men’s national team is set to take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto tomorrow night, but they will have to do so without Alphonso Davies, who remains out with a hamstring injury.
Canadian coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that Davies underwent an MRI on Wednesday, and it was determined that he would not be healthy enough to play.
“We did an MRI with Alphonso yesterday,” Marsch told reporters. “He’s getting better every day, but not at 100 per cent just yet… I honestly wish we had two more weeks, so Alphonso could be back.”

Davies is arguably Canada’s best player, and not having him to start the World Cup is a major loss for the squad. While it wasn’t good news, Marsch did seem optimistic that Davies is very close to getting back to being match-ready.
That two-week wish that he candidly shared with reporters seems to indicate that Davies could also miss Canada’s second game against Qatar and possibly be back for their final group stage game against Switzerland.
No concrete timeline was given for Davies’ return to action.
Injuries are a major concern for this Canadian team, which is looking to secure the country’s first-ever victory at the World Cup. Outside of Davies, the squad has also lost midfielder Marcelo Flores for the entire tournament, and there are questions surrounding centre-back MoĆÆse Bombito as well.
It was initially thought that Bombito would miss the entire World Cup with an injury, but the latest updates have him ready for Canada’s opener, though he is unlikely to start.
“I don’t see any reason that a week from now that he’ll be a starter. His talent and personality makes him a very unique player to not be out there,” Marsch said
An update on Moise Bombito:
Bombito will be ready for tomorrow, though doubtful to start.
