Calgary’s about to get its very first Black-owned market.
This Saturday will see a market featuring over a dozen vendors set up at the corner of 14th Avenue and 9th Street SW, and will include DJs, food, and entertainment throughout the evening.

According to Instagram account @bomyyc, the market will run from 4 to 10 pm on Saturday, July 18.
“Supporting Black Owned Businesses helps decrease the racial wealth gap by providing Black Business Owners with funds that they are less likely to get from banks, investors, etc,” a post on the page states.
“And also because Black people in our community make and provide some of the bombest products and services!”

Physical distancing measures will be in place ensuring that all vendors are set up at least two metres away from each other, and there will be a 50-person limit for the amount of attendees in the lot at any given time.
All guests are required to wear a mask to attend the market and stay at least two metres away from others.

Some of the announced vendors include @ashabiwears, who will be selling locally-made face masks, skincare line @makeupbyannerh, soaps by Karibu Handcrafted Soaps, and many more.
The market is free for all to attend.
