Those hoping to hit the beach this summer won’t have to make the 10-hour drive out to the coast, because The Beach YYC is back in business.

Calgary’s only indoor beach recently announced that its volleyball leagues are restarting as of this August thanks to the loosened restrictions that came with the Province of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy.

They’re kicking things off with a four-week mini league for recreational, intermediate, and competitive players, running Rec 4s, Int 4s, and Comp 3s starting the week of August 10 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, respectively.

A newsletter from the company states that the four-week season will cost just $155 per team, and they’re offering $50 off for any team that has been affected by COVID-19 through layoffs, if they are on unsure financial footing right now, or if they were playing in the Deep Winter League that got cut short by the pandemic.

“We know everyone is struggling in their own ways through this and we want to do our part to support our community,” the newsletter states.

“This includes physical activity to help your mental health and wellbeing.”

A number of measures are, naturally, in place for those hoping to participate, including that teams must have all players rostered before the first game, that all players on a team must be in a single cohort, and that all participants must initial in agreement that they meet the provincial health check requirements prior to every game.

Those who register for the mini summer league will get priority registration for the Fall League, which starts on September 14.

Those hoping to register can do so at The Beach YYC’s website.
