It’s basically winter in Calgary, with snowfall and record-breaking cold temperatures abound.

And while we’re complaining about shovelling snow from our driveway or getting caught in traffic on the way to work, other Calgary residents are making the most of the weather.

That’s right, our furry friends over at the Calgary Zoo are embracing the early winter vibes in the most adorable way possible.

Can’t remember the last time you visited the zoo? Well, in that case, it’s been too long. The Calgary Zoo is home to nearly 1,000 creatures across 119 species, making every visit a whole new experience.

There is literally something fun and exciting happening at the zoo every day, with a full schedule of programming continuing through the winter months.

We’re talking about getting up close and personal with big cats at the Tiger Training, discovering how animals source their treats during Animal Snackers, listening in on the always educational Penguin Keeper Chat, learning about Gorilla Family Dynamics, and exploring how the zoo uses science to create their animal habitats during Nature Hackers, among other events.

Spend the day out at Calgary Zoo and refuel along the way at Kitamba Café, Kitamba Java, or Penguin Café, where you’ll find fresh hot snacks and drinks to warm you up. If the little ones want to take their own mini stuffed animals home, they’ll find at least one that captures their heart at the gift shop.

Best of all, your zoo experience directly supports conservation efforts. At its Centre for Conservation Research, the zoo works with partners to sustain at-risk wildlife here at home and all over the globe. Together, they develop community conservation and reintroduction strategies that benefit threatened wildlife.

Already, the Calgary Zoo is involved in 12 conservation programs in Canada and around the world. This season, gifting a zoo membership lets you contribute to funding for this research.
