Winter returns to Calgary this week with snow and negative temperatures

Apr 21 2021, 5:48 pm

For the second time in less than a week, Calgary is set to experience some weather whiplash. A high near 20ºC is expected on Wednesday, with snow and negative temperatures in the forecast for Thursday.

This forecast appears eerily similar to what the city experienced over the weekend, seeing sunshine and a high of 20ºC on Saturday before waking up to snow and temperatures around the freezing mark on Sunday.

According to The Weather Network, it’s 13ºC and sunny in the city right now, and Calgary could see a high of 18ºC this afternoon.

By Wednesday evening, things are expected to cool off to 12ºC with a chance of showers. Overnight temperatures drop dramatically, and a high of 0ºC and mixed precipitation are predicted.

On Thursday morning, Calgarians can expect a high of -1ºC, feeling like -7ºC, and light snow bringing about one centimetre of the white fluffy stuff to the city.

Scattered flurries through Thursday afternoon will taper off by evening, and we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds in Calgary, with -3ºC temperatures feeling like -7ºC.

Friday will put us back in the positives with a high of 6ºC and a mix of sun and clouds predicted, but don’t expect the weather to get much better after that.

Light snow is in the cards for the weekend, bringing approximately five centimetres on Saturday with a feels-like temperature of -3ºC. Another centimetre of snow and a high of 1ºc is in the forecast for Sunday.

Hope you didn’t put your winter coats away just yet, Calgary.
