The Thanksgiving long weekend in Calgary is shaping up to be a bit of a doozy, with snow in the forecast.
Daily Hive spoke with Chloe Katsademas, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), yesterday regarding what’s behind the cooler temperatures and snow risk arriving in the province. But since then, a fresh forecast for the city has bumped up the risk of snow making an appearance.
Looking at the forecast issued by ECCC at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, Calgary will be basking in slightly above-average daytime highs before things take a brisk turn Friday evening, with periods of rain and a temperature of 3°C.
Rain or snow is forecast for Saturday, Oct. 10, with just a high of 3°C before dipping to -1°C that night, with snow expected. Calgary can plan to see periods of snow stick around during the day on Sunday, Oct. 11, before tapering off heading into the night.
Temperatures will start to improve for Calgary as soon as Thanksgiving Monday arrives, with warmer weather in store as we roll through early next week.

According to ECCC, the average daytime high for this time of year is 14°C, while the average low is 0°C.
Katsademas also added that with fall foliage still on many trees this time of year, wet, heavy snow may cause some issues with tree branches breaking.
