Calgary Stampeders get totally random shoutout on ESPN

The CFL may not be all that well known in the USA, but that didn’t stop ESPN’s Pat McAfee from giving the Calgary Stampeders a quick mention this week.

McAfee, a two-time NFL Pro Bowler, recently had Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen on as a guest on The Pat McAfee Show. Allen appeared on the show in a red Bills practice uniform, which Ty Schmit, an on-air personality and producer, doesn’t seem to be a major fan of.

“Are you guys the Buffalo Bills or the Calgary Stampeders?” Schmit said.

Not everyone agreed with the comparison, however, as just seconds later, Connor Murphy, better known as Boston Connor, responded, “The Stampeders jerseys are way better than those.”

Even the Stampeders themselves weighed in on the debate.

While both jerseys are primarily red, there are pretty distinct differences between the two. You be the judge.

Now, here’s a look at the new red jerseys the Stampeders released back in April ahead of the 2026 season.

Many chimed in siding with the Stampeders in the uniform comparison.

“Let’s start with Calgary, it’s pronounced Calgree,” one fan responded, while taking a shot at Schmit’s pronunciation of Alberta’s largest city. “Second, those Stamp jerseys are way better than the Bills.”

Regardless of opinion, it was pretty cool for Stampeders fans to hear their team mentioned on such a big platform.

As for the Stamps themselves, they currently sit fourth in the West Division with a 4-5 record. They’ll be looking to get back to .500 this Thursday in a divisional matchup against the 3-5 BC Lions.

The Bills, meanwhile, are entering the 2026 season as Super Bowl contenders once again. They lost in the divisional round of last year’s playoffs to the Denver Broncos by a 33-30 final.
