Stampeders get ready: rain is on its way to Calgary this week

Jul 10 2018, 2:09 am

It may be wise to purchase a poncho if you’re headed out to the Stampede this upcoming weekend, as the forecast looks anything but kind.

While the rain has been held at bay for the first weekend of the festivities, the grey clouds are expected to roll in on Tuesday, along with a 60% chance of showers and the possibility of lightning.

And you don’t want to be stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel once that lightning hits.

It’s not all bad news and grey skies, though, because Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday are all expected to be gorgeous days with clear skies and highs of 24°C to 28°C.

forecast

Calgary weather this week (Environment Canada)

The rain will likely return starting Friday, with a 70% chance of rain on both Friday and Saturday, and a near surety of it on Friday night.

Sunday will see only a 30% chance of showers during the day, and the sun may even make an appearance for the last day of the party.

So just be sure to put those boots on, bring a jacket along, and get ready for a wild (and possibly wet) week in Calgary!
