Calgary to still see Stampede fireworks displays this July

Jun 30 2020, 4:19 pm

The 2020 Calgary Stampede may have been cancelled, but one of its most exciting events lives on.

Organizers have announced plans to go ahead with two fireworks displays to mark what would have been the first and last days of this year’s Stampede, allowing Calgarians a chance to revel in that Stampede spirit if only for a short while.

The displays will be held on July 3 and 12, and plan to be “bigger and higher” than a usual fireworks display, allowing them to be seen from anywhere with a view of Calgary’s skyline.

ā€œThis is going to be an incredible show and we canā€™t wait to share the experience with our community,ā€ said Dana Peers, President and Chairman of the Stampede Board, in the release.

ā€œWeā€™d like to thank Calgarians for always riding by our side, and special thanks to Stampede partner Bell for making this possible.ā€

The announcement came mere hours before the Province of Alberta issued a release detailing a new maximum for select outdoor events, including fireworks displays, bringing the limit of attendees up from 100 to 200 — so long as physical distancing measures are upheld.

Those who would prefer to stay indoors will still be able to enjoy the show, as the event will be broadcast live on CTV Calgary.

Anyone watching the fireworks outdoors is encouraged to tune into FUNNY 1060 for the accompanying musical soundtrack.

ā€œItā€™s a fireworks show for everyone ā€“ in your yard or in your home. We encourage you to find a safe place, and show Calgaryā€™s spirit,ā€ said Peers.

Both shows start at 11 pm sharp.
