Calgary could see a return of smoke to its sunny skies today

Enjoy the sunshine while you can, because there’s a chance that smoke is on its way back to Calgary.

Don’t worry, it won’t be nearly as bad as it was last month, but there is a chance that the air will become noticeably hazier throughout the day as Calgary’s Air Quality Health Index is expected to go up to a level five.

For some perspective, the index currently marks Calgary’s air at a three (Low Risk) and had it generally at a seven during most of the smokier days this summer.

It did manage to get to 10+ on a few days last month, so if you managed to get through that, we’re sure that today’s five (Moderate Risk) will be no problem.

There have been no air quality advisories put into place for the city of Calgary yet, or any areas of Alberta, for that matter, but BC is still plagued by over 30 special air quality statement, with many being in place for regions just over the Rocky Mountains including Elk Valley and Kootenay Park.

Still, a little smoke is no reason not to enjoy the warmth and sunshine expected for today, as it might just be the last true day of summer here in Calgary.

You’ll probably want to get out there and, you know, do something fun — if that is the case.
