Calgary restaurants and bars offering deals for teachers and families

Alberta teachers are officially on strike as of Oct. 6, 2025, and with thousands of teachers and families impacted, some Calgary restaurants, bars and breweries are offering support.

While it is currently unclear how long the strike action will last, YYC eateries are stepping up to offer everything from a free pint of beer to free meals.

Here are the Calgary spots offering deals for teachers and families during the strike.

Tool Shed Beer

For the duration of the strike, Tool Shed Beer’s founder, Graham Sherman, and CEO, James Costello, will be buying teachers a pint at its taproom. Teachers will be able to get one free pint per day with the presentation of a valid teacher ID.

To help support families during the school closure period, any meals ordered by kids aged 12 and under will receive 40 per cent off. The offer is not limited to the kids’ section of the menu and will be available from Monday to Friday.

Bowness spot Brewsmith will be offering teachers a free classic hot dog during the strike, with the presentation of a teacher ID.

For those looking to treat their teacher pals, Boogie’s Burgers is offering a free burger when purchasing a burger at one of their locations. Teachers must show a faculty ID or proof of position. Any teachers dining solo will be able to get 20 per cent off.

Motto and sister restaurant, Pho Dau Bo, is offering 15 per cent off at its Calgary locations to teachers. All they need to do is show their teacher ID.

Maven Group restaurants, Brekkie, Maven and Sammie’s, will be offering free brunch treats to Alberta teachers during the strike. Teachers will need to show their school ID to get fry bread and cream (Maven), breakfast fritters (Sammie’s), or Korean-style potatoes (Brekkie).
