These are Calgary's reduced city service hours for over the holidays

Dec 18 2020, 9:31 pm

Just like the rest of us, the City of Calgary is taking a much-needed break this holiday season.

A release from the city notes the services that will be either closed or operating on reduced hours over the holidays, including public transit, cart collection, and city landfills, to name just a few.

The City also announced that it is offering free transit service to everyone on Christmas Day, just in case you happen to forget that cranberry sauce and need to head down to the store.

Here’s what the transit hours will look like over the coming week:

Monday, December 21: The start of winter service changes

Friday, December 25: Free service all day! Trains will run every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes from 10 pm to 2:30 pm. Bus services on routes 1, 3, 8, 9, 14, 38, 43, 100, 300, 301, 302, MAX Orange, MAX Yellow, MAX Teal, and MAX Purple will run every 20 to 45 minutes

Saturday, December 26: Operating on a Sunday level of service

Thursday, December 31: Operating on regular weekday service

Friday, January 1: Operating on a Sunday level of service

Monday, January 11: Operating on regular weekday service

Parking will also be free on all Calgary Parking Authority surface lots and parkades on Friday, December 25, Saturday, December 26, and Friday, January 1.

New years fireworks have been cancelled by the city due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but they will be hosting an online fireworks display to ring in the new year.

Cart collection will be halted on both Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1, and anyone who would usually have their arts picked up on those days will instead see them picked up on the following Mondays.

All Calgary landfills will be closed on December 25, December 27, January 1, and January 3, but will be open on December 26 and January 2.
