A man has died following a confrontation with police on Saturday night.

According to a release from the Calgary Police Service, a man in his 40s was reportedly screaming and throwing things in the hallway of his apartment building in Calgary’s Kingsland neighbourhood, which prompted a response from police officers.

They arrived on scene just before 9 pm on Saturday, and after roughly half and hour of speaking with the man, he jumped from his balcony and confronted the officers.

“At approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer-involved-shooting occurred. Although specific details can’t be released, police can confirm weapons were recovered at the scene,” the release states.
