A popular Calgary tennis centre is eyeing a huge expansion

A popular Calgary tennis centre is looking at a major expansion as it marks a decade of operation in the city, with plans to boost year-round access in the works.
The Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre (ATC) announced a proposed project that would add eight indoor courts to the facility, a move the centre says would increase public access to tennis by roughly 62 per cent.
The plans also include a new reception building with change rooms, washrooms, and office space; 89 additional parking stalls; upgraded lighting and security; improved landscaping; and a dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone.
Future phases could see additional seasonal outdoor courts, along with other public amenities that will be shaped by an engagement process involving the Acadia Community Association and the ATC.

“Our vision has always been to create the best community-based tennis development centre in North America while ensuring tennis remains accessible, welcoming and affordable for everyone,” said Danny Da Costa, chief executive officer at Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre, in a release.
“This expansion will allow us to serve thousands more Calgarians each year, meet growing demand for court access and programming, and continue building a community asset that benefits residents, athletes and families for generations to come.”
Since opening in 2016, the centre has become one of Canada’s leading tennis facilities, logging more than 71,000 hours of annual court access and introducing more than 70,000 children to the sport through school programming.
“Tennis Canada is thrilled to be a part of the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre’s 10th Anniversary Celebration,” said Gavin Ziv, chief executive officer at Tennis Canada. “Tennis has seen incredible growth over the last few years, and it is our continued mission to expand access to the game for all Canadians.”
The expansion still requires the appropriate development approvals before moving ahead.
