Here's what's open and closed in Calgary this Labour Day long weekend

Labour Day is almost here in Calgary, and for some, that means a nice day off! Before you go ahead and make plans, you might want to see what’s open and closed.

The holiday falls on Monday, Sept. 7, and lots of businesses and services in Calgary will have adjusted hours, with some even being closed. Here are a few spots that will be open and closed on Labour Day.

Calgary Public Library

All branches of the public library will be closed on Labour Day.

Grocery and liquor stores

While grocery and liquor stores are considered essential services and are generally open across the city on holidays, they might be operating on adjusted hours. We advise checking your favourite location before you go, just to confirm:

Canada Post will be closed on Labour Day. There will be no collection or delivery of mail on that day.

Movie theatres

Cineplex Entertainment, Landmark Cinemas, and Canyon Meadows Cinemas will be open on Labour Day for moviegoers who want to grab some popcorn, snacks, and a comfy theatre seat.

There are a ton of fun places to visit over the Labour Day long weekend. You can check out the zoo, which will operate under normal hours on Monday; Telus Spark, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or Heritage Park, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Transit

The City of Calgary will operate buses, CTrain, and On Demand on a Sunday level of service on Labour Day.

Chinook Centre and Market Mall are open on Sept. 7 with adjusted hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Southcentre Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
