While the East and West Coasts generally boast about their thriving electronic music scenes, it’s central Canada that is bound to steal the spotlight this year.

According to electronic music website Beatport, Calgary is one of 13 cities that is ready to rule the dance scene. Named among other world-class cities, including Seoul and San Diego, Calgary has seen a rise in electronic shows and festivals over the past years.

With festivals like Chasing Summer, Calgary has started to place itself on the electronic music global map. And with local venues like Marquee, Commonwealth, and HiFi Club’s recent roster of DJ/producers bookings, the small scene is quickly gaining steam and making itself known nationally. Once known for its cowboy boots and country festivals, Calgary is now a major stop for DJs on tour circuits.

To top it off, West Coast electronic giant Blueprint is now in Alberta. With a few major Edmonton festivals under their belt already (Northern Lights and Arrival Alberta), this is just the beginning for the Alberta music community.
