Yahoo: Calgary was just named the best place to live in Canada

If you weren’t already proud to be a Calgarian, a new ranking has placed Calgary as the best place to live in Canada. Yahoo!
MovingWaldo recently updated its list of seven places in Canada with the highest quality of life for 2025, and Calgary ranked #1.
MovingWaldo’s three main areas of focus in compiling the ranking were quality of life, safety, and affordability.
“Recognizing that the term ‘best’ can be subjective, we have developed a systematic approach to evaluate each location on these parameters,” MovingWaldo states.
Other factors include “job opportunities, the quality of education and healthcare, the sense of safety, public transportation availability, environmental cleanliness, and the presence of recreational facilities and parks.”
Calgary claimed the top spot on MovingWaldo’s list last year, with the moving company highlighting YYC’s affordability and proximity to Banff.
MovingWaldo says Calgary has a Crime Severity Index (CSI) of 72.47 (lower is better). The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Calgary is $1,841, and the average cost of buying property is $588,600.
Calgary’s “ample job opportunities” in the oil and gas sector and its high demand for professionals, including nurse attendants, retail managers, and administrative officers, also pushed the city into the top spot.
“Many people are relocating from Toronto to Calgary for better job prospects and more affordable living,” MovingWaldo writes.
Other positives for Alberta’s biggest city? The Calgary Flames, of course, and the countless nature trails peppered throughout city limits.
“While air quality can be a concern at times due to ongoing wildfires in Alberta, the city’s many advantages make it a top choice, securing this spot on our list.”
Other Canadian spots to make the list included Wellington County, Ontario; Oak Bay, BC; and Fredericton, New Brunswick.
