Calgary’s public libraries are getting Star Wars fans geared up for the much anticipated “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

Less than two weeks before the saga’s eighth instalment hits the big screens, three libraries in Calgary will be hosting Star Wars Day: The Library Strikes Back.

The event will feature stormtroopers, droids, virtual reality, and more, will span the Central, Shawnessy, and Saddletowne libraries, and is free for all to attend.

Visitors are encouraged to dress in family-friendly Star Wars cosplay, and there will be lightsaber-building on hand for anyone who forgets their trusty saber at home.

“Libraries are gathering places, full of varied resources and relevant programs. Our upcoming Star Wars Day is a fun opportunity for us to bring fans together,” said Heather Robertson, director of service design, in a release.

Participants will learn how to program a mini version of fan-favourite droids like R2-D2 and BB-8, and pose with members of the 501st Legion; Canada’s own stormtrooper regiment made up entirely of Star Wars fans.

The events will take place from noon to 4 pm on December 2.
