Calgary is forecast to be soaked in some stunning temperatures soon, and you should get out and enjoy them while you can.
Our city is set to see its warmest daytime highs so far this year, with Friday forecast to reach a gorgeous 26°C and plenty of sunshine. If that temperature holds, it easily surpasses the warmest daytime high of 2025 so far, which we hit on Saturday at 19.8°C.
A big change arrives just in time for the weekend and the start of May, with showers arriving on Saturday and temperatures sure to crater for Sunday, with a high of 14°C.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the average high for this time of year in Calgary is 14°C, while the average low is 1°C.
Daily Hive asked Alyssa Pederson, a warning preparedness meteorologist with ECCC, to break down what Calgary should expect and why the temperatures are on a bit of a roller coaster this week.

Pederson said that the warmth that is coming as we go through the week is due to an upper ridge, and while the province had aĀ cold front wheel through yesterday, now we’re going to be getting an upper ridge building in.
“It’s kind of like a heat event or heat dome, but not a heat dome. You know, those are massive mass events, but heat is coming in. But then we’re going to have a low pressure system develop, kind of, into the weekend here, and then a cold front will move through, bringing those temperatures right back down,” Pederson said.
“Those are kind of the things we’ve seen, spring is a lot more volatile, where we’ll have heat events, and then we’ll go really cold.”
If you were curious about how April as a whole shaped up across Alberta, Pederson added that it was a pretty normal month temperature-wise.
“We’ve had a little bit of heat here and there, but we’ve also had those days that, you know, felt like winter had returned. So yeah, it comes out pretty normal right across the province.”
