Calgary Flames have several players drawing trade interest: report

It sounds like the Calgary Flames will have the option to tear things down and sell even further, should they see fit.

After moving on from several veterans who were on the roster to begin last season, this 2026-27 campaign feels like the first true year of a rebuild in Calgary. The results reflect that, as the Flames are 0-3-0 while being outscored 16-3.

This season is expected to be painful, but it’s all part of the process as the Flames look to build toward the future. And, as crazy as it may sound, things could get even worse before they get better.

Though Flames management is in no rush to make deals at this time, they have several players on their current roster receiving trade interest around the league, as per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

One of those names receiving interest is Morgan Frost, which comes as little surprise given that he’s in the final year of his contract. The pending UFA has a goal through three games this season and carries a very reasonable $4.375-million cap hit.

Pagnotta also mentioned that there has been interest in defenceman Zach Whitecloud, who the Flames acquired last season from the Vegas Golden Knights.

Whitecloud has quickly become a big part of the Flames’ dressing room and was announced as part of the organization’s leadership group before the regular season got underway.

Management is certainly in no rush to move Whitecloud, but could wind up getting an offer they can’t refuse. He’s 29, is a right-handed shot, and is being paid just $2.75 million this season and next. That gives him a whole lot of value on the trade market.

Last but not least to be mentioned by Pagnotta was Connor Zary. After clearing waivers earlier this week, the 25-year-old is a player to keep an eye on in terms of a possible trade moving forward. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast that the New York Rangers are a team believed to be interested.

Whether any of these players actually get moved remains to be seen, but the important takeaway is that the Flames have options. If the season continues to spiral, there will be little reason for management to cling to the idea that this roster can somehow turn things around in the short term.
