Calgary Flames radio broadcast team is set
Meaghan Mikkelson is officially returning to the Calgary Flames’ radio booth.
QR 770 announced Friday morning that Mikkelson will once again serve as the Flames’ colour commentator, reuniting her with play-by-play voice Derek Wills ahead of the 2026-27 season.
In other words, the gang is back together.

Mikkelson began serving as the Flames’ colour commentator ahead of the 2023-24 season, becoming the first female radio colour commentator in franchise history.
The former Canadian national team star enjoyed a lengthy playing career before making the jump into broadcasting, winning gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics.
“We BACK,” Mikkelson wrote on X. “I have had a lot of teammates over the course of my career, and these two are two of the absolute best. Couldn’t be more excited.”
As you would expect, her return was met with plenty of excitement, including from her broadcasting partner.
“Congratulations, partner,” Wills tweeted. “The band is back together.”
Mikkelson’s return also completes a familiar-looking radio lineup after Sportsnet 960 was pulled from the airwaves earlier this offseason, leaving a number of talented broadcasters without jobs.
The Flames announced in mid-August that their radio broadcasts would be moving to QR 770 as part of a new five-year agreement between the two sides. The deal also includes a daily Flames Now show.
Roughly one month later, QR 770 announced that Wills would return as the Flames’ play-by-play voice, while Pat Steinberg would host Flames Now as well as the team’s pre- and post-game shows.
Now, Mikkelson is back, too.
Wills and Mikkelson will begin calling games in just over a week, with the Flames’ first preseason game scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20 against the Seattle Kraken.
The regular season will get underway on Thursday, Oct. 1, when the Flames will once again face the Kraken.
