While the Calgary Flames have had serious troubles scoring this season, it’s been quite the opposite for their AHL affiliate.
The Calgary Wranglers, who have a 2-2-2 record on the season, are averaging 3.33 goals per game through their first six outings. What makes it all the more exciting is that plenty of that offence has come from young prospects.
Leading the charge is 19-year-old Matvei Gridin, who cracked the Flames roster out of training camp but was re-assigned to the AHL after four games. He’s since suited up for four games with the Wranglers, during which time he’s racked up three goals and seven points.

Gridin is currently tied for 14th amongst all AHL skaters in points, and is second to all Wranglers aside from Dryden Hunt, who has managed two goals and eight points on the season.
Hunter Brzustewicz, who is in his second season of pro hockey, has also gotten off to a red-hot start with three goals and six points through his first six games. The 20-year-old defenceman, who had excellent numbers in his two-year OHL career, registered five goals and 32 points in 70 games with the Wranglers in 2024-25.

To no surprise, Rory Kerins, who was placed on waivers to begin the season, is off to a strong start once again with three goals and seven points. Sam Morton, who was a dark horse to crack the Flames roster, has two goals and two helpers, while William Stromgren, who the organization is still high on, has four assists.
Though this type of production doesn’t help the Flames right now, it’s a good reminder that this organization appears to have a bright future in store.
Should these mentioned players continue to rack up points, we may see one or two of them get a stint with the Flames at some point in the near future in hopes of sparking the team’s offence.
