High-fiving hockey moms giving Calgary Flames a heartwarming boost

The Calgary Flames had plenty of motivation to be at their best last night, as they kicked off their mom’s trip in Anaheim.

They were indeed able to put forth a good effort, defeating the Ducks by a 3-2 overtime final. While it may be different in some senses from what the dads brought exactly a year ago, the moms made sure to bring the energy while celebrating with the team following last night’s victory.

Thanks to a break in their schedule, the Flames and their moms were able to get to California a couple days early. The first night of the trip included a team dinner which many photos were taken at.

“I think the energy [from the moms] is really good,” head coach Ryan Huska said prior to puck drop. “This is my first mom’s trip that I’ve been around for. The energy is different from when the dads are on the road trip, for sure, but I know the players are excited to play in front of them.”

Last year, it was the dads who brought the energy on a trip that took time at nearly the same time as this year’s mom’s trip.

Immediately after last night’s win, they all gathered in the tunnel to celebrate. The video posted by the Flames shows their excitement and even includes Jakob Pelletier and Ryan Lomberg giving high-fives to all of them.

“It’s always nice to get a win, especially in front of the moms,” Nazem Kadri said. “I think it’s a little extra incentive. It sounds like they had themselves a little bit of a day. It’s nice to see them enjoying themselves.

“It’s a little bit energizing and definitely a different feel. The dads are probably sitting at home scratching their heads right now wanting to be here, but it’s always nice to give the moms some love.”

They certainly did have a day prior to puck drop, as they were able to hit the ocean on what looked like a fantastic boat excursion earlier in the day.

Unfortunately, last night’s game will serve as the one and only outing of the mom’s trip, as tonight’s contest has been postponed due to wildfires in LA.

It’s not all bad, however, as they now have the next three nights off before returning to the Saddledome for a game on Saturday, which will give all the players a little extra time to spend with their moms.
