Calgary Flames defenceman Zayne Parekh will not be participating in the team’s upcoming prospects training camp due to injury.
The Flames also announced that blueline prospect will not play in either of the two rookie games versus the Edmonton Oilers this weekend.
Parekh has been battling an injury throughout the offseason, as he was pulled from Hockey Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase in late July due to a lower-body injury. The Flames don’t seem overly worried about the injury, with an update suggesting he’s being held out of this week’s prospects camp as a precaution.
“Weāre still working through with his injury from the summer. But he is skating,” GM Craig Conroy told reporters on Tuesday. “Heās going to skate today. So hopefully everything, by the time camp gets going here, heās feeling good and ready to go.”
Flames fans felt something was up this morning, as the team listed its roster for prospects training camp, with Parekh’s name being a notable omission. The ninth-overall selection from the 2024 draft is widely regarded as the organization’s best prospect.

Though it’s disappointing that Parekh won’t be available to participate this week, it’s a positive sign that this doesn’t appear to be anything serious. Despite being just 19 years old, he’s expected to push for a roster spot this season.
Parekh is coming off another fantastic season in the OHL, one in which the right-shot defenceman scored 33 goals and 107 points in just 61 games with the Saginaw Spirit. He wound up making his NHL debut in the Flames’ final game of the 2024-25 season, where he scored a goal in a 5-1 victory over the LA Kings.
