Calgary Flames provide injury update on Devin Cooley and he will miss some time

It looks like Dustin Wolf will take over the crease for the Calgary Flames for the next few weeks.

Wolf had been serving as the Flames’ backup as of late, as Devin Cooley had been red-hot between the pipes with wins in four straight games. He made his fifth-straight start against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, but was forced to exit after the first period following a collision with Colton Dach.

It became apparent early Friday morning that Cooley was set to miss some time, as the Flames announced that Arseni Sergeev has been recalled from the Wranglers. Shortly after that news broke, head coach Ryan Huska gave an update on the 6-foot-6 netminder when speaking with reporters.

“We would say he’s week-to-week, I guess is what I would say,” Huska said.

The Flames have since placed the 29-year-old on injured reserve.

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time, as Cooley was playing some of the best hockey of his NHL career. Through seven appearances this season, he’s posted a 2.69 GAA along with a .914 SV%.

Cooley had really picked up the slack between the pipes following what has been a rough start to the season for Wolf. After allowing three goals on 23 shots in relief against the Oilers, he sits with a 4.81 GAA and a .831 SV%.

The Flames will need Wolf now more than ever, and he’ll get the chance to turn his season around tonight against the Seattle Kraken.

Huska also provided a positive injury update on Brennan Othmann, who was also forced to exit early against the Oilers. Though he won’t be in the lineup this evening, he’s being listed as day-to-day with an upper-body ailment.

With Othmann’s injury, the Flames also announced that William Stromgren has been recalled from the Wranglers. The Swedish winger has gotten off to a strong start this season, sitting with three goals and 11 points through 11 outings.
