Calgary Flames draft lottery odds drop after four-game win streak

The Calgary Flames are streaking at a rather inopportune time.

With playoffs well out of the question and a potentially franchise-changing draft pick at stake, the Flames have rallied off four straight wins, including a 3-2 shootout victory over the LA Kings on Tuesday.

While it’s great to see this suddenly very young Flames team continuing to play hard late into the season, this recent winning streak has helped them climb from 31st to 29th in league standings in just over a week’s time. As a result, their draft lottery position has changed.

By moving up two spots in the standings, the Flames would have just a 19.3 per cent chance of picking top three at the 2026 draft if the season were to end today. That is much lower than one week ago, when they had a 58.3 per cent chance of doing so.

If the NHL season were to end today, the Flames would instead have a 44.6 per cent chance to draft fifth overall. That would be crushing for a fan base that has been praying for the opportunity to draft Gavin McKenna or Ivar Stenberg.

The good news for Flames fans wanting to see this team truly bottom out is that their upcoming schedule is about to get very difficult.

The Flames have two more games remaining on what’s been a six-game homestand, first welcoming the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday before a Saturday night outing versus the Vancouver Canucks. Then comes a rather daunting six-game road trip.

That road trip, in order, will see the Flames go up against the Colorado Avalanche twice, while also facing the Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, and the Seattle Kraken. There will also be a rematch against the Ducks mixed in there as well.

The Flames will have just three games remaining after that road trip, one of which will yet again see them play the Avalanche. In other words, plenty more losses could be coming their way before the 2025-26 season wraps up.

Despite their recent climb in the standings, the Flames remain just two points ahead of the 31st-placed New York Rangers. Should their struggles on the road continue, there’s a strong chance they could find themselves right back in 31st in just a few weeks’ time.
