Devin Cooley’s start against the Edmonton Oilers came to an end much earlier than expected, and it had nothing to do with his performance.
The Calgary Flames goalie allowed one goal on nine shots in the first period. While nothing was reported during the intermission, it was Dustin Wolf that led the Flames out for the second period.
It appears as though Cooley suffered an injury following a collision with Oilers forward Colton Dach late in the first period. The Flames netminder did stay on the ice for a few seconds but was able to get up on his own and finished the remainder of the frame.

This is an extremely unfortunate break for both Cooley and the Flames. The 29-year-old has been playing some of the best hockey of his career as of late, winning each of his past four outings while posting a 1.50 GAA along with a .954 SV% over that span. He’s taken over the crease in Calgary, as tonight marked his fifth-consecutive start.
While extremely unfortunate for Cooley, this could give Wolf the break he needs to get his game back on track. The 25-year-old has struggled to begin the 2026-27 season, posting a 4.85 GAA along with a .834 SV% in five starts.
That hasn’t been the only piece of bad news for the Flames tonight, either.
Brennan Othmann dropped the gloves early in the first period with Oilers defenceman Ty Emberson and has also been ruled out of the game. The 23-year-old hadn’t registered a point through his first five games of the season heading into tonight’s tilt.

Head coach Ryan Huska should provide clarity on Cooley’s status following tonight’s game at Rogers Place.
