Insider pours cold water on Calgary Flames trade speculation concerning Kadri

Don’t expect the Calgary Flames to trade forward Nazem Kadri anytime soon.

The 34-year-old’s name has been involved in plenty of trade rumours as of late, something which he recently admitted he’s heard a lot of. Despite all the talk, however, it doesn’t sound as though a trade is coming.

“A lot of people talking about the Calgary Flames and Nazem Kadri, what happens with their star centre? Will he be on the move?” said NHL insider Frank Seravalli. “It is summer, it is hot out, and perhaps it’s my turn to pour some cold water on some of those rumours that have been out there.

“You’ve heard Nazem Kadri linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs, you’ve heard him linked to the Montreal Canadiens. You’ve heard him linked to a lot of different places. How about we just keep the link with the Calgary Flames? He’s done just about everything they’ve asked, and they’re not interested in moving him.”

Seravalli went on to mention that the Flames haven’t engaged in any trade talks involving Kadri, and that they would need to be blown out of the water by an offer to even consider moving him.

Kadri joined the Flames as a free agent ahead of the 2022-23 season, believing he was joining a team that would be competing for Stanley Cups. Things have gone awry since, though the veteran, who has a full no-movement clause, hasn’t given any sort of indication that he’s unhappy with his situation.

Despite the Flames struggling as a whole during Kadri’s tenure, he’s been as advertised, leading the team in scoring in each of the past two years, including this past season, which saw him score a career-high 35 goals. Given his production on a team that struggles to put the puck in the net, you can understand why the Flames have little to no interest in moving him.
