Here's how much cap space the Calgary Flames have left

The Calgary Flames continue to have an abundance of cap space.

Since Craig Conroy has taken over as GM, he has done a fantastic job of accruing plenty of cap space, largely by trading veteran players for picks and prospects. Some believed he would be active once free agency began, given all that cap space, though so far, goaltender Ivan Prosvetov and defenceman Nick Cicek are the only two players the Flames have signed.

Though it’s been quiet so far for the Flames, there are still plenty of great names that remain up for grabs should they see any as a potential fit. They certainly didn’t plan on being this quiet, as it was reported yesterday that they attempted to trade for K’Andre Miller. With the 25-year-old blueliner no longer available, they may indeed pivot to the free-agent market.

As per PuckPedia, the Flames have more than $15 million in cap space. They have just one RFA remaining in Connor Zary, but also have a few areas they may like to upgrade before the 2025-26 season begins.

One area the Flames may look to add to is their centre-ice position, which was a weak spot of their roster a season ago. One name that sticks out from both a position and age standpoint is 28-year-old Jack Roslovic, who is coming off a 22-goal, 39-point season with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Another area that could use an upgrade is their back end, particularly on the left-hand side. While they were able to re-sign Joel Hanley, the fact that they were in on Miller shows that management is hoping to add another piece.

The Flames could also choose to be done and allow for their prospects to push for spots in training camp, which certainly wouldn’t be the worst decision for a team that is still early in its retooling stage. That said, seeing a player or two added wouldn’t come as a surprise, as it seems management is ready to take another step forward off of an impressive 2024-25 season.
