Calgary Flames fans who have driven past the Saddledome as of late have likely noticed some drastic updates with the new arena.
Scotia Place, which is set to be the new home of the Flames, began in July 2024. The early stages began with the groundbreaking and the start of excavation, while the foundation work kicked off early in the new year.
Though the building isn’t set to host the Flames until the 2027-28 season, the amount of progress they’ve already made has been extremely impressive. On Thursday, the official Instagram account of Scotia Place shared some updates for fans to take a look at.

As the video provided by Scotia Place’s Instagram shows, there are several parts of the building that are now being put together above ground level. It will only continue to progress in the coming weeks and months, which fans can drive by and see as often as they wish.
There have been several things already checked off on the to-do list, including the excavation of the main site and foundation being poured for the south-west restaurant and loading dock. Concrete work has gotten underway for the south outdoor public plaza, and the mezzanine formwork is beginning to take shape.
This arena is slated to have some great amenities, including a two-story bar, an underground community arena, Indigenous cultural design, flex washrooms, and much more.
Should there be no delays in construction going forward, the Flames will have just one additional season remaining at the Saddledome before making the move to the new building. Once Scotia Place is deemed ready, the Saddledome, which has served as the home of the Flames since 1983, is expected to be scheduled for demolition.
