Calgary Flames' new arena will feature quiet room to help fans lower anxiety

The Calgary Flames’ new arena, which started being built almost one year ago, is going to be well worth the wait.

It is no easy task building what is expected to be a state-of-the-art facility, as proven by the fact that it isn’t expected to be ready until the 2027-28 season. Once it’s here, however, fans in Calgary are going to absolutely love it, while many from outside the city will travel here to see it.

This facility will feature many great amenities, including a two-story sports bar and some stunning Indigenous cultural design. It will also feature an underground community arena that will allow for the Flames to practice in the same building they play at all times, and will also feature flex washrooms that will change from male to female depending on the expected demographic for any given event.

Most people keeping tabs on Scotia Place already know of these amenities; however, what many aren’t aware of is that this new building will also feature quiet rooms. These rooms will provide fans with the opportunity to reduce anxiety and sensory overload that can come from loud atmospheres such as sporting events and concerts.

This is a feature many newer buildings have to ensure all guests are properly accommodated. Rogers Place, for example, which is the home of the Edmonton Oilers and opened its doors ahead of the 2016-17 season, also features similar rooms for attendees who find themselves needing a break from all of the excitement.

While there are still plenty of ways to go before finishing the construction of Scotia Place, a lot of progress has been made. Fans who have driven by the site anytime soon will have noticed it is far more than just a hole in the ground by this point, and you can bet more significant progress will be made between now and the start of the 2025-26 season.

GM Craig Conroy has said that he believes having this new building will help the Flames when it comes to selling free agents on Calgary, which is even more reason for fans to get excited about it.
