Dustin Wolf was none too happy following the Calgary Flames’ 2-1 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.
It marked the seventh-straight loss for the Flames, a span which has seen them score just nine goals. It’s been an ugly stretch for this Flames team, which was able to pick up a single point against the Habs thanks in large part to an outstanding performance from their 24-year-old goaltender.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Wolf had some comments which have generated plenty of buzz throughout Calgary.
“It’s tough. I can’t generate offence,” Wolf said. “I do my job. I try to keep the puck out of our net, and hope that our guys can generate a couple.”
Wolf was asked about the frustration from the Flames in general over their lack of scoring to begin the season. Though he didn’t seem to intend anything malicious by his comments, instead simply stating a fact, they are quickly gaining steam on social media.
“He has not been good until these last couple of games,” one Flames fan wrote on X. “Not liking his attitude here!”
Plenty of other Flames fans were surprised to hear the comments, though not everybody disagreed with what he had to say.

It isn’t just fans weighing in on the comments, either. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman also gave his thoughts on the matter in an appearance on Sportsnet 590 The FAN on Thursday morning.
“Wolf’s a great player and he was their MVP last year, but if he meant it the way it came across a bit … when you’re 1-7 and you’re struggling, you don’t want people doing like, ‘Hey, I had my guy,'” Friedman said.
Friedman, however, did make it very clear that he wanted to listen to the entire interview clip to make sure the quote wasn’t being taken out of context, which many feel it was.

Regardless of whether or not Wolf was taking a shot, it’s clear that the Flames are a very frustrated bunch right now, as they sit at 1-6-1 on the season. They’ll be looking to give their goaltenders some more run support on Friday in a road tilt versus the Winnipeg Jets.
