If you’re looking for a fun activity to do this winter, the City of Calgary just announced that Crokicurl is officially coming to Barb Scott Park.
Crokicurl is a fun winter game that mixes a life-sized version of the game Crokinole with curling. The objective is to score the most points by shooting curling rocks towards the centre of the ice. It’s easy to pick up, making it a great activity for friends, families, or anyone looking to try something new this season.
It uses a point system like curling, with three coloured rings, each representing a different number of points. The game requires no equipment, besides the curling stones, which are provided during the rink’s open hours.
According to its website, Calgary already has two other locations where you can play Crokicurl, Bowness Park and North Glenmore Park, but the new one at Barb Scott Park will be the first downtown.

Crokicurl will replace the park’s skating rink, but you can still find places to skate downtown, including Prince’s Island Park and Thomson Family Park.
“Barb Scott Park was named in honour of the late Alderman who served on Council for 24 years. Council approved the name in July 2013. With limited open space in the Beltline, this new public park is a much-needed neighbourhood space for Calgarians who live and work in the area and will add to the vibrancy of the community.”
As of Oct. 29, 2025, the Crokicurl rink is closed, but you can check the City of Calgary’s website for updates on when it opens.
