The most amazing corn mazes to check out near Calgary this year

Sep 1 2017, 3:31 am

Hello September! The kids are heading back to school, the outdoor pools are closing up, and everyone can hesitantly begin breaking out their fall wardrobe again because we’re about to turn the corner into fall.

And of course, with Autumn comes Halloween, with Halloween comes pumpkin patches, and with pumpkin patches come huge corn mazes to get lost in.

Nothing says romance quite like jumping out of the stalks and scaring the toque off of your partner, right?

Calgary has a handful of great mazes to check out between now and Halloween, so grab those rubber boots from the basement, dust off those mittens, and try your best not to suffer heat stroke while convincing yourself that it’s cold enough to dress for fall.

Here are a few of our favourites — all of which are already open.

Bowden Sun Maze

With the only sunflower maze in Canada—along with other, cornier mazes—Bowden Sun Maze is a must-visit. And the sooner the better, as the sunflower maze opened on August 1, and the intense heat of the sun is ironically taking its toll on the flowers. If you get there and the sunflower maze is out of commission, you’ll still have a great day in their corn mazes and at their UPick farms.

Hours: 1 to 5 pm Monday to Thursday, 11 am to 5 pm Friday to Sunday, and on September 5
Where: 24530 Range Road #14, Bowden
Admission: $9 for adults, $6.50 for kids (5-17), free for 4 and under

If you’re looking for a real challenge, Calgary Corn Maze & Fun Farm boasts the largest corn maze in Southern Alberta. Completing their large maze will take roughly an hour and a half—depending on your navigation skills—and is the size of 10 football fields. This year’s design is celebrating Canada 150, and you’ll find yourself getting lost throughout lacrosse sticks, maple syrup bottles, and totem poles before completing this doozy of a maze.

Hours: 10 am to 5 pm Friday to Sunday, 5 to 9 pm Fridays and Saturdays after September 22 for Flashlight Nights
Where: 284022 Township Road 224, Rockyview
Admission: $14 for adults, $13.50 for youth (aged 3 to 17) and seniors (65+)

Cobb’s Adventure Park & Corn Maze

I tried to come up with a good caption, but they were all too corny 🌽

This year’s corn maze is “Amazed by Weather” and has brave travellers searching through tornados, snowflakes, and a blazing sun. If the five acres is a bit too vast an area for you, they’ve also created a mini corn maze, a rope maze, and a pyramid puzzler for the more casual wanderers.

Hours: 11 am to 5 pm Friday to Sunday and Thanksgiving Day. Open evenings on Fridays and Saturdays for flashlight nights
Where: 1500 84th Street N.E., Calgary
Admission: $13.50 for adults, $12.50 for kids (3 to 17) and seniors (65+)
