Not too sure what to get that special someone this holiday season?

Well, to save you from having to reach out to the internet for inspiration, one Calgary startup has put together a 24-hour “Holiday Gift Recommend-athon” for Thursday, November 14 with the help of some of Calgary’s most recognizable names.

Small City Stockings, a one-stop shop for locally curated Christmas stockings, has enlisted the help of YYC’s radio DJs, business owners, bloggers, and Olympians to answer calls and provide thoughtful recommendations for gifts as we head into the holidays.

What’s even better is that for every recommendation given to callers, “a donation will be made to the Calgary Homeless Foundation in an effort to help alleviate recent budget cuts,” the release states.

“We know that finding that special gift for your favourite person can be a daunting task. We also know about hundreds of amazing goods from local makers, artists, and small businesses. Our goal is to use that knowledge to help make Christmas stress-free and joy-filled for the lovely folks across Calgary,” said Head Elf (and co-founder of Small City Stockings) Chad Neufeld in the release.

“We look forward to helping Calgarians solve their Christmas shopping dilemmas in a fun and exciting way that simultaneously promotes some of Calgary’s amazing local businesses and gives back to the community in a meaningful way.”

Answering gift questions over 24 hours will be a rotating cast that includes Mike Morrison (of Mike’s Bloggity Blog), Nirmala Naidoo (award-winning journalist and politician), Lori Gibbs (95.9 CHFM radio host), Kat Millions (X92.9 FM radio host), Hayley Daniels (Olympic medalist), Angel Guerra (Market Collective co-founder), Connor Curran and Dustin Paisley (Local Laundry founders) Erica Morgan (WILD PR), and Tony McGrath (CEO of The GRAND Theatre).

And don’t worry if you’re somewhat daunted by the idea of hopping on a phone call with a stranger — the team will also be taking tweets (@CityStockings), texts, emails ([email protected]), and submissions to the Small City Stockings’ official Reccomend-athon page.

Not a bad way to get that Christmas list ironed out while supporting local Calgary businesses and the Calgary Homeless Foundation.
