Calgary police are on scene of a vehicle fire that involved a bus, leaving three people dead and multiple injured in northeast Calgary Thursday afternoon.

According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), officers responded to the 800 block of Saddletown Circle N.E. at about 1:11 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2026.

According to a release from CPS, at least 10 people were injured as a result of the incident. Three people have been declared deceased, one person has sustained life-altering injuries, and one has sustained serious injuries.

A member of the CPS has also sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

Access to Saddletown Circle is closed, and police are asking motorists to avoid the area for a significant amount of time.

Calgary police held a livestreamed news conference at 3:30 p.m. detailing the incident.

Police believe a bus travelling along Saddletown Circle struck a white car, pushing it into a black car and then colliding with a van. The bus then continued through an intersection and hit a second bus stopped at a bus stop, pushing it across the road and into three other vehicles.

At the press conference, Sgt. Andy Woodward stated that in his 36 years on the force, it is “probably the biggest scene” he has worked on in relation to the collision on scene.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith took to social media shortly after 4 p.m. to speak on the incident, calling the news out of Calgary “heartbreaking.”

“My sincere thoughts are with the families of those who died and with everyone injured. Our first responders were on scene within minutes and are still working. I thank them for their immediate response, and thank the doctors and hospital staff who are now caring for these patients,” Smith posted on X.

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas also took to social media to offer his condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected.

“I’m heartbroken by the tragic collision involving two Calgary Transit buses near Saddletowne Station. Three people have died, and ten are injured, including a Calgary Police Service member who attended on scene. My deepest condolences to the families grieving,” Farkas said on X.
