These are the five most livable neighbourhoods in Calgary

Our fair city is home to many beautiful communities, but these five spots are considered the best Calgary neighbourhoods to live in.
Considering Calgary only comes second as one of the top cities to buy real estate in Canada, this might just help you narrow your search.
This list was informed by Area Vibes, which compiled livability scores for Calgary neighbourhoods by assessing nine different categories: amenities, commute, cost of living, crime, employment, health, housing, schools, and community ratings.

This creates an overall livability score out of 100. The higher the score, the better the area.

5. Eau Claire
Starting at number five comes the dynamic neighbourhood of Eau Claire. Located in downtown Calgary along the river, it’s not hard to imagine why this spot made the list. The community has an impressive livability score of 90/100, and ranks highly on things like amenities, commute, and employment. Its Achilles’ heel? Cost of living, where it scored a cringe-inducing F. Not exactly a grade to hang up on the refrigerator.
4. Chinook Park
The charming community of Chinook Park comes in with an identical overall score of 90/100, but scoops the number four spot. Residents here can enjoy lovely tree-lined streets and a stone’s throw walk to Glenmore Reservoir and its trails. While it ranks highly on most metrics, it fails the same test as our previous mention, with a cost of living that’s 11 per cent higher than the Calgary average.

3. Garrison Green
At number three, we have the Calgary community of Garrison Green. This neighbourhood has high ratings when it comes to housing, schools, nearby amenities, and a low crime rate. A popular choice for young families who want easy access to downtown without compromising on space or tranquillity. It also has an overall livability score of 90/100, with a much better cost of living grade of C-.
2. Garrison Woods
Coming in second place is the neighbourhood of Garrison Woods, the perfect blend of inner-city convenience and residential bliss. Much like Garrison Green, this community ranks highly on housing, schools, and amenities, but inches one step closer to the coveted prime spot with a livability score of 91/100. The one catch? Cost of living, with a score of D+. Anyone else seeing a trend here?
1. Erlton
Here it is, the one you’ve been waiting for. Sweeping in to claim the number one spot is the community of Erlton, the best neighbourhood in Calgary, according to livability scores. Erlton comes in with a livability score of 91/100, getting an A+ on nearly every category. The only thing taking away from its near-perfect report card is the cost of living, for which it earns a C+. Slightly better than Garrison Woods, but still pricy by locals’ standards. Guess you can’t have everything.
