A major milestone has been reached in Alpine Park in southwest Calgary as its first wave of retail and amenities begins to take shape.

According to Major Projects Alberta, a $5 million gas station, convenience store, and restaurant is in the works, which is just one of several new retail developments planned for the area.

The southwest community is now moving into its next phase of development, with its first commercial spaces expected to open in the coming months.

“With retailers in the Convenience District expected to be fully open before the holiday season, and development on the Service District planned next, Alpine Park is entering its next stage as a fully serviced community,” said Michael Tandara, director of marketing for Western Canada at Dream, when speaking with Daily Hive.

Dream is the developer behind Alpine Park in Calgary, and is leading the planning and buildout of the community’s residential, retail, and mixed-use spaces. This year marks Alpine Park’s fifth anniversary, after officially launching on Oct. 30, 2021.

With its first retail spaces on the way, Alpine Park is beginning to deliver on its vision of a walkable, amenity-rich neighbourhood.

“With the upcoming turnover of Alpine Villages’ Convenience District to retailers early this summer, Alpine Park is reaching a major milestone,” Tandara said.

“The core community vision, numerous, exceptional parks; tree‑lined streetscapes of charming porched homes; and convenient shops just steps away, will have been realized.”

The Convenience District is the first of three planned retail areas within Alpine Park. The next phase, the Service District, is expected to introduce grocery, retail, and additional services designed to support both residents and visitors travelling along Stoney Trail.

The final district will be the Social District, which will be a fully pedestrian plaza and complete the full vision for Alpine Village.

Parks and green spaces are a central part of the long-term plan, with a 32-acre naturalized wetland park and a total of 15 parks and public spaces expected when the community is finished.
