What seemed like the entirety of Calgary came out on Sunday to check out the live music, bustling crowds, and over 500 vendors that filled 4th Street for this year’s Lilac Festival.
The free, one-day event catered to all ages, with everything from kid-friendly activities to Happy Hour specials. The festival is timed to the blossoming of the city’s multiple lilac bushes, which attendees were surely delighted to see in full bloom.

The event ran from 10 am to 6 pm, spanning along 4th Street from 13th Avenue and Elbow Drive. A few attendees even wore costumes out to the event, which, according to its website, “encourages citizens to shake off their winter blues and reintroduce themselves to the thriving creative community in our city.”
The Lilac Festival is only the first of many festivals expected to run in Calgary over the coming month, and many more are planned for the rest of the summer, which officially starts on June 21.
Until then, we’ve thrown together a few photos of the festivities to tide you over until the solstice — and other great events — finally arrive!
