Here's every Blue Jays player to follow on Instagram for the 2019 season

In the past, the coolest souvenir from a professional baseball player was an autographed baseball or bat. Today, a simple mention or like from a player is the modern-day currency for fans.

Most of the Toronto Blue Jays players are plugged into social media, where you’ll find them on Instagram posting everything about baseball, to food, fashion and family.

As a primer for the 2019 season, here’s every Blue Jays player to follow on Instagram (if you aren’t already).

Infielders

Freddy Galvis

Scrolling through his feed, Freddy Galvis might just be the coolest dude on the Blue Jays roster. He’s one of the new additions to the club for 2019 and teammates can’t stop raving about him.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. takes the cake with the best head of hair on the club. His long locks are always on full display in his photos. It must run in the Gurriel family, as his brother Yuli Gurriel also has quite the hairdo.

Danny Jansen

Danny Jansen takes over the reins from Russell Martin as the Blue Jays’ new everyday catcher. The 24-year-old has some big shoes to fill, but his path towards becoming one of the best catchers in the AL is pretty clear right now.

Brandon Drury

Barring some unforeseen circumstances, Brandon Drury will start at third base for the Blue Jays on Opening Day. He’s merely keeping the hot corner warm until Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s arrival, but Drury is an underrated player.

Devon Travis

Devon Travis is on the shelf for the foreseeable future with a knee injury, but he does post occasionally on Instagram … mostly about family and football.

Outfielders

Kevin Pillar

Kevin Pillar kicks off his fifth consecutive season as the Blue Jays’ everyday centre fielder. He’s the longest-tenured member on the roster and one of the Jays’ recognizable players on the field and on social media.

Randal Grichuk

Randal Grichuk begins his second full season in a Blue Jays uniform. His 2018 campaign got off to a rocky start and he missed a month due to injury, but upon his return in June, he tore the cover off the ball.

Grichuk went yard to hit 23 of his 25 home runs during his final four months of the 2018 season. Watch for Grichuk to have a big year in 2019.

Teoscar Hernandez

Teoscar Hernandez isn’t the best defender in the field, but his raw power is unparalleled. In 2018, Hernandez ranked within the top 10 hitters in baseball for barrels per plate appearance.

If he keeps hitting at this rate, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo will have a hard time keeping Hernandez’ bat out of the lineup.

Billy McKinney

Along with Drury, Billy McKinney is one of the dark horse candidates on the Blue Jays roster to have a breakout season. Oddly enough, McKinney came along with Drury from the New York Yankees in the J.A. Happ trade last year.

Starting Pitchers

Marcus Stroman

Nobody is more active on Instagram than Marcus Stroman. In fact, the Stro Show might be the busiest baseball player on Instagram, period. Whether he’s hanging out with his dog, promoting his fashion line or taking the mic on stage, fans always know what Stroman’s up to.

Aaron Sanchez

Conversely, there’s Aaron Sanchez. He’s relatively quiet in the media and he doesn’t post very frequently on Instagram. Sanchez is hoping to return to prominence as a top of the rotation arm for the Blue Jays.

Ryan Borucki

Ryan Borucki came out of nowhere last year to throw the second-most quality starts of any starting pitcher on the Blue Jays last year. He returns for his sophomore campaign and hopes to build on his 4-6 record with a 3.87 ERA from last year.

Relievers

Bud Norris

Bud Norris was the closer for the St. Louis Cardinals last year. If healthy, he forecasts to become the setup man in the Blue Jays bullpen for the 2019 season. Even at 34-years-old, the veteran still has a big arm and can dial up his fastball to 95 miles per hour.

Ryan Tepera

Ryan Tepera’s injury spelt very bad news for the Blue Jays bullpen, but ultimately, it looks like he should be okay. He’ll resume throwing this week and will likely join the core of Blue Jays relievers in the near future.

John Axford

After being dealt away by Blue Jays at last summer’s trade deadline, John Axford re-signed in Toronto for the 2019 season. Over the weekend, he was released by the club and then re-signed again with his hometown team.
