A northeast Calgary park is getting a MAJOR transformation
A major transformation is in the works for Big Marlborough Park, including tons of new amenities.
The 18-hectare park just wrapped up the master plan phase of the project, and now it’s heading into the detailed design phase, which is expected to last until late 2026.Ā
The master plan gave insight into what’s coming to the park, including new amenities, upgraded infrastructure, and a redesigned layout focused on safety, connectivity, and community gathering.Ā

āDuring public engagement, we heard existing park features such as pathways, the toboggan hill, skating rink, trees, and disc golf course should remain as essential park elements. We also heard the seven baseball diamonds in the park were underused, park connections needed improvement, gathering spaces were lacking, and park users had safety concerns.ā
Some new features coming to the park include an expansion of its disc gold course, multi-use cricket or soccer fields, pathway realignments, shade structures, as well as a community hub area, which will include a full-sized basketball court, as well as a three on three basketball court, a playground, a skate park, a pump track, washrooms, and a variety of seating options.

According to the website, āSafety is a top priority for community members, and the updated park design will offer multiple safety improvements.ā
The new safety measures include a relocated parking lot for better visibility, improved lighting throughout the park, and automated gates for accessing the east, west, and north parking lots.
As of right now, the detailed design phase is set to take place from 2025 to 2026, followed by the construction phase, which will take place from 2027 to 2029, and the anticipated completion of the park will be in 2030.
