If you’re thinking about getting a new Christmas tree this year, real or artificial, there are plenty of places to find the perfect tree fit for any home.

Alberta Forests
Head to the woods, literally, and cut down your own tree out in Alberta’s provincial wilderness. A permit is required from the Environment and Sustainable Resource Development and costs less than $10 (valid for 30 days). Bring your own sharp tools and at least a 4X4 vehicle with enough space to haul back your chosen tree.

Junior Forest Wardens Christmas Tree Cutting Lot
Each year, the Calgary Junior Forest Warden Society operates a designated lot for Christmas-tree hunters to cut down a wild, lodgepole pine tree. Located 45 minutes west of Calgary along Highway 66 at Powder Face Trail, the lot is open on weekends starting from November 30 until a week before Christmas. A $5 permit is required and sold on site with payment accepted in cash or cheque.

Blue Grass Nursery
Available every year from November to the end of December, the Winter Wonderland Christmas Store at the Blue Grass Nursery is packed with sparkling Christmas decor, arrangements, trees, and more. Freshly cut Christmas trees arrive mid-November and range from five feet to a whopping 16 feet tall. A variety of unlit and pre-lit artificial trees are also in stock and come in different colours, shapes, and sizes.

Scouts Canada Christmas Tree Lots
The 31st Scout Group will operate its tree lot from December 1 until the third week of December (or until trees are sold out). Find the tree sales in the parking lot at the Holy Cross Anglican Church. Operation hours vary but the lot will be open daily on weekdays and weekends. Check the calendar here to schedule your visit.
