If you’re heading to Banff soon and want a photo beside the iconic sign in the townsite, you may need to use Photoshop this time around.
The iconic Banff sign was moved to its current home near the Banff Train Station late last year, after calling a spot along Norquay Road home since 2017.
That sign’s previous location sparked concern with the town and local RCMP, thanks to issues like people stopping vehicles illegally on the side of the road or in the middle of the road to allow passengers to jump out and get in line for a photo.
The Town of Banff says starting today, there will be no iconic sign to take a photo beside. As part of the development of the new location of the Banff sign next to the Train Station, the big letters will be temporarily removed and stored for three to four weeks to allow for completion of the park features, including new sidewalks and paths, public seating, trees and landscaping.
The good news is that the letter will be moved back, accompanied by a spruced-up area that will make photos beside it even better.
It’s shaping up to be a busy summer in Banff National Park, with the town stating earlier this month that it is expecting record summer traffic. Nearly seven million vehicles were recorded at the two entrances to the Town of Banff in 2025, with 24,000-30,000 vehicles counted at town entrances every day in summer.
