The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has issued another release regarding the fatal collision that took place in northeast Calgary early Monday morning.
An initial release stated that an SUV had struck a truck at the intersection of Metis Trail and Country Hills Boulevard at around 3:30 am on February 10.
The driver of the SUV was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the truck, an off-duty CPS officer, was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The initial release also noted that the SUV had an interaction with a marked CPS vehicle prior to the collision.
A new release from ASIRT states that the driver of the SUV had been a 21-year-old man, and that the SUV had been allegedly stolen, which is what prompted the interaction with the marked police car.
The SUV had been fleeing westbound at high speeds on Country Hills Boulevard, according to the release, when it ran a red light and struck the pickup truck.
“ASIRT’s investigation will seek to determine whether the actions of any police officer caused or contributed to the death or serious injury that resulted from the collision,” the release states.
ASIRT is asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the events to contact them at 403-592-4306.
