Active coronavirus cases in Alberta saw a significant increase over the past three days.

New numbers from the Province of Alberta show that, as of August 17, there are 1,132 active coronavirus cases in the province — 96 more than the number we had been at on Friday, August 14.

The active cases are the result of 356 new cases detected, with 177 on August 14, 86 on August 15, and 96 on August 16 following 10,886, 8,663, and 8,691 tests, respectively.

However, when breaking the active cases down by region, the province shows that current numbers are actually down in Calgary, with just 300 active cases compared to Friday’s 305.

The largest influx of active cases can be found in Edmonton, which jumped from 497 on Friday to today’s 593.

There were marginal increases and decreases throughout Alberta’s remaining three regions, as well as for cases where a region is not known.

The weekend also saw an additional three deaths related to coronavirus, bringing the pandemic’s total fatality count in Alberta to 224.

11,056 cases have recovered from the virus so far.
