Halloween is just around the corner in Alberta, and some parts of the province are staring down a scary forecast with a decent amount of snow on the way.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), special weather statements are in effect for a wide swath of north central Alberta, with winter travel conditions “possible or occurring” as of Sunday afternoon.
Forecasters note that a slow-moving band of precipitation is sitting over northern Alberta, and in some locations, precipitation has changed to snow.
“More areas will see rain change to snow tonight. Snowfall amounts will be variable, but in some locations, 10 centimetres will fall by Monday morning,” the statement read.
“Further light snow is expected on Monday. Be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating road conditions. Adjust your driving for changing road conditions.”
Some towns under the gun include Slave Lake, High Prairie, Grimshaw, Spirit River, and Red Earth Creek.
You can check out all of the current weather watches, warnings, and statements on the ECCC weather information portal.
