Nightwave Arcade officially opened last week, giving Calgary a brand-new spot to play games, hang out, and have a good time.

Located at 2020 32nd Ave. NE, Nightwave Arcade, formerly VR Core, has expanded beyond virtual reality to offer a wider variety of gaming experiences.

Visitors can now enjoy pinball machines and old classic arcade machines, ranging in genres from shooters to puzzle games.

Guests can still dive into virtual reality adventures, from solo experiences like Job Simulator and Superhot, to multiplayer games with friends, including Walkabout Mini Golf and Synthriders. There are even virtual reality escape rooms and arenas for bigger challenges.

“We’re trying to expand ourselves into a kind of fusion of an old school arcade and a modern arcade,” said Keagan Henderson, one of the owners of Nightwave Arcade. “We’re trying to make it an experience everyone can enjoy, no matter their age.”

The team at Nightwave Arcade has plans for future events and activities in Calgary, but is keeping them under wraps for the time being.

For now, visitors can enjoy snacks, pops, and juices, but Henderson says they are working on some upgrades.

“We’re working on our kitchen right now, so hopefully in the next couple of months, we’ll have full food services and alcohol service as well.”
